Per-gram gold pricing across UK carats
Gold is traded internationally in troy ounces, but UK customers almost always sell by the gram. The per-gram spot price is simply the international rate divided across 31.1035 grams, expressed in pounds sterling — and it moves continuously through each trading day.
Each UK carat carries a fixed purity: 9ct (0.375), 14ct (0.585), 18ct (0.75), 21ct (0.875), 22ct (0.916) and 24ct (0.999). The per-gram value of a piece is its weight in grams multiplied by its purity decimal and the current spot rate.
Reputable buyers apply small refining and handling adjustments to the gross figure. These should always be shown clearly. We publish ours in your itemised offer so the per-gram figure can be checked against any other quote.
Per-gram pricing you can check yourself
A trustworthy per-gram quote is one you can verify with a calculator. We publish the formula, name the adjustments and pay the figure we quote — no headline gimmicks reduced on arrival.
HighStreetGold operates from its headquarters above the flagship Cash Generator store in St Helens town centre — a real, identifiable UK business with genuine premises, real staff and a public local reputation. You always know who is behind your valuation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the current gold price per gram in the UK?+
The per-gram price moves continuously with the international market. We quote against the live rate at the time of valuation and document it in your offer.
How do I calculate gold price per gram for my carat?+
Multiply the weight in grams by the purity decimal for your carat (e.g. 0.375 for 9ct) and by the current spot price per gram in pounds.
Why do per-gram quotes vary between buyers?+
Different buyers apply different refining and handling margins, and some quote a deliberately high headline that is reduced on arrival. We quote and pay the same figure.
Is the per-gram price for 24ct the same as the spot price?+
Close, but not identical. 24ct is 99.9% pure, and small refining and handling adjustments still apply between spot and the paid figure.
