How selling gold by post works
Our postal service is designed around three things customers care about most: protection in transit, a transparent valuation, and fast payment. Each pack we send out includes a secure pouch, addressed Royal Mail Special Delivery label and clear instructions.
When your gold arrives, it is logged, photographed and tested by our valuation team. We then calculate an offer based on the carat, weight and the current market rate, and contact you with the itemised result.
If you're happy, accept the offer and we pay the same day by bank transfer. If you'd prefer your items back, we return them on a tracked and insured service at no cost.
Before posting
Preparing the parcel properly
Group items roughly by carat
Not required, but helpful — we re-sort and re-test on arrival anyway.
Record what you're sending
Photograph the items together and keep a list. Use the form in the pack to declare each piece.
Choose a sensible declared value
Be honest about what the items are worth — declared value drives the insurance level on the postal service.
Wrap items so they don't move
Use the secure pouch in the pack. Avoid jewellery scratching coins or bullion in transit.
Keep the Post Office receipt
It's your tracking and insurance reference. Keep it safe until payment lands.
Don't include items you want to keep
Anything inside the parcel is treated as offered for valuation.

A postal service with a real shop behind it
Many postal-only gold buyers operate from central depots with no public-facing premises. Your pack to HighStreetGold arrives at our flagship St Helens headquarters where you can verify exactly who is handling your valuation.
HighStreetGold operates from its headquarters above the flagship Cash Generator store in St Helens town centre — a real, identifiable UK business with genuine premises, real staff and a public local reputation. You always know who is behind your valuation.
A note on insurance
Insurance depends on declared value & the postal option chosen
Declared value drives the cover
Be realistic about the items' value when sending — under-declaring reduces protection if anything goes wrong.
Higher cover for higher-value parcels
Bullion or larger collections — speak to us first so the correct option is used.
Tracking is included on every pack
Standard Royal Mail tracking from acceptance through every handling point.
Return parcels covered too
Items returned to you (if you decline an offer) use the same tracked and insured method.
